So yo...No, you can't libel someone who is dead. So you can say what you like and they have no comeback. Unless they manage to find something else to sue you for....

You can't use Word to check final layouts as they are supplied as PDFs, so you just have to look at them. But keep the versions you have submitted and approved, so that you can show later what *you* thought was in the book, and what you sent to the publisher. If they have changed something and not told you about the changed, and you can prove it was not in what you submitted, you will have a reasonable case.Stroppy Authorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16560035800075465845noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2363444567124084776.post-45637122652268702482014-12-09T18:49:55.623+00:002014-12-09T18:49:55.623+00:00Thank you for going into such detail. Wondering - ...Thank you for going into such detail. Wondering - can the family members of someone who's passed sue you in the UK for something deemed libelous? Or, only the person named in the text?

Secondarily, do you use a compare versions program to check for changes?

Often publishing timelines are so tight it's almost impossible for an author to guarantee every bit of text is "safe" or change is caught. Slip ups will happen, and Word is an onerous tool for version management!Sandrahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08118071316421474604noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2363444567124084776.post-8546207523673739462010-12-31T20:17:04.886+00:002010-12-31T20:17:04.886+00:00thank you so much for these helpful explanations, ...thank you so much for these helpful explanations, it really helped me in the understanding of such contracts!!!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05989242323204605940noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2363444567124084776.post-25540997791265697482010-05-24T19:55:35.315+01:002010-05-24T19:55:35.315+01:00As someone who has fallen foul of this clause I ca...As someone who has fallen foul of this clause I can assure readers that publishers really mean it.Brian Keaneyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17754984212153946279noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2363444567124084776.post-32105750596653440132010-05-23T15:46:46.845+01:002010-05-23T15:46:46.845+01:00Thank you - that's very kind of you.
